Frascati Foreign Friends Special!

Theater company Dood Paard invites Frascati Foreign Friends to come and see the performance IN DIE NAG written by Rob de Graaf and besides two members of Dood Paard performed by the legendary performer Marien Jongewaard and the young theater maker and actor Joachim Robbrecht. IN DIE NAG will be performed in Dutch and South African without subtitling. But we invite you to our new working space at Frascati for a intensive talk about the performance with the actors. And even if you can't understand everything, there will be enough for you to see and it's a great introduction to our work and Dutch text based theatre. The talk will be on Saturday at 19h00 February 9, the performance will be at 21h00 on the same day. We invite a maximum of 9 people to the talk and the performance for a reduced ticket price of € 13,50

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
A family held together by frustrated ambitions flees to a strange, distant country. The father, mother and two adult sons travel to South Africa – but inevitably they realize that there too, the air is thin, the ground hard and life arduous. This country offers no sun-drenched swimming pool idyll but instead a troubled existence in a white trash caravan park.  Inspired by among other things, Eugene O’Neills drama ‘Long day’s journey into night’, Dood Paard makes a completely new play that tells of aversion and solidarity, about belief in liberation and the prison called reality. But no matter how deep the spiral  twists downwards – one elementary life force perseveres to the very end. Tomorrow could bring what today so sorely lacks.

ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Lifted from a poem by the Dutch poet Gerrit Achterberg, the name Dood Paard (“Dead Horse,” in Dutch) embodies the double vision of the company itself: the darkness represented by death, in contrast with bright vitality and life represented by a horse. The group was founded in 1993 when its members were about to graduate from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Arnhem. Integral to its philosophy is a commitment to operate as a collective with no single voice of authority. Nearly two decades later that idea still reigns with company decisions still made through discussion among its members, which include actors, directors and technicians. At the heart and soul of Dood Paard’s work are the questions, which they are constantly asking themselves: What do we know; what is our situation; and what do we think? The company regards the world from a critical stance, but one infected with good humor and an optimistic belief that man’s intellect and creativity can transcend tragedy.
